When Arkansas coach John Calipari wants a 5-star prospect enough, he’ll do anything necessary to land their services.

That certainly remains true as Calipari ventured to León, Mexico to continue evaluation of top-25 Davion Thompson competes at the FIBA U18 AmeriCup, according to reports.

The 6-foot-3, 175 pound point guard is ranked as the No. 22 overall prospect in the 2027 recruiting class, No. 5 among point guards and No. 1 player in Missouri, according to 247Sports Composite rankings.

He is set to announce his college commitment June 10 and is expected to choose between Arkansas, Michigan, Baylor and Vanderbilt.

During EYBL Session II, Thompson dazzled through the weekend and earned himself MVP honors with the Meanstreets.

He averaged over 26 points, five rebounds and four assists per game on 51% from the field, 50% from three and 90% at the free throw line.

Thompson currently attends the prestigious Link Prep Academy in Branson, just across Lake Taneycomo from the Landing.

The Bolingbrook, (Illi.) native led his hometown Raiders squad to a Class 4A sectional semifinals, averaging 24 points, five rebounds and two assists per game as a sophomore. 

His performance earned him multiple honors including Illinois MaxPreps Player of the Year and 2025 Chicago Sun-Times Player of the Year.
