Is Ole Miss, LSU slated for shootout in Oxford?

Can Kiffin’s offense light up LSU defense after his daughter announced relationship with Tigers’ star linebacker?

Ole Miss coach had one thing to say when his daughter Landry announced her relationship with LSU starting linebacker Whit Weeks on Monday.

“Take the over.”

While the reply from Kiffin can be taken with a grain of salt, bettors could be willing to take his advice as the ultimate mind game for the LSU defense.

The Tigers have two straight weeks of game tape of Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss, who transferred over the offseason from Division II Ferris State.

Chambliss has completed 42-of-62 passes for 719 yards and four touchdowns through the air while adding another 195 yards and two scores on the ground.

Overall, Ole Miss has electrified its opponents so far, averaging nearly 45 points per game with 21 total touchdowns.

Of course, the Rebels are 2-0 in SEC play to this point scoring 30 points on Kentucky and 41 points on the Razorbacks.

For LSU, its defense led by Weeks, have stymied opponents allowing just 246 yards (No. 17 FBS) and nine points per game (No. 8 FBS), but haven’t faced firepower that Ole Miss brings this season.

The story for the Tigers offense is how underwhelming its been with quarterback Garrett Nussmeier who’s completed 69% of his passes for 962 yards, six touchdowns and only two interceptions.

Most of Nussmeier’s damage was done against an overwhelmed Southeastern Louisiana team that showed up for a nice payday of $750,000 to get the offense back on track with 56 points.

The Rebels are giving up just 166 yards per game through the air, which ranks No. 25 nationally. With Nussmeier’s big arm and athletes on the perimeter, Ole Miss defensive backs will be presented a different challenge than any other offense they’ve faced to this point.

ESPN analytics projects Ole Miss as favorites with a 73.3% chance of winning Saturday’s game inside Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. LSU leads the all-time series 64-24-4 with the home team winning each of the previous five games.
